Fernando, Mauricio, El Ruso and El Mono have been friends united since childhood by their love of the Argentinean football club Independiente. When El Mono succumbs to cancer, his friends find that all he has left for his young daughter Guadalupe is a share in a oncepromising young footballer, Pittilanga, now playing in the lower divisions. In an effort to fulfil El Mono’s dying wish to provide for Guadalupe, the three friends navigate their way through the murky world of professional football and turn Pittilanga into the next big thing.
